Just went to the most confusing concert of my life.....

Alright, so I've been to a lot of shows in my life, but nothing like this. 
 
The Butthole Surfers. There was no crowd interaction, there was lots of porn, lots of zombies, lots and lots of gore, and lots and lots and lots of videos of exploding heads playing in the background.  
 
The lead "singer" was not only drinking mixed drinks, but was also doing drugs right on stage. It was easily the loudest show I have ever been too, and I can't even begin to explain it. I did it wrong. I was supposed to be high as fuck. I wasn't, so I was just in a completely overwhelmed state of shock through the whole show.  
 
This was a video taken from that night. It's not a good example to show because there is nothing disgusting playing on the back screen. I assure you, what they had playing on that screen was worse than any gore you have EVER seen. And it just repeated in short loops, over and over.  And I have never seen so many people openly doing drugs before, and I live in a very big drug area, but this was unbelievable. 
 
Also, this video just has the guitarist yelling, that's not the vocalist. The vocalist is the guy on the saxophone thing.  
 
Keep in mind, these guys are over 50 years old..... 
  
  

Sounds pretty fucking awesome to me....Who wants to see a bunch of guys stand around and sing without anything at all interesting happen, Especially if you dont listen to their music regularly

 It was awesome. Weird as fuck, but awesome. They didn't even play any of their hits.  Not even "Pepper". They sounded nothing like their cds. They were a lot harder and it was very dark as opposed to their usual joking style. 

Was the music actually good?  I once went to an Aquabats concert and that was confusing in a fun way.  The way you described this band made me not want to see them...

When I saw mono they caught their monitors on fire & kept playing (didn't take the pics but I was there).
But the BHS show was loud?  I've never been to a concert that I didn't think was ear shreddingly loud.  You feel the music in your bones & that makes it cool, just bring earplugs.

The only comparable concert I've seen was Cage The Elephant, their lead singer was drunk and just running around the whole time head banging in a weird way and climbing things. Still was great though.

i kept waiting for the music but all i heard was noise.

Sounds like less of a concert and more like one big drugs convention. No wonder that guy I knew was so into them.

When he was in Kyuss, yes. He did all the time.   Why does it matter if he does it right before or during?   Their music is pure stoner rock. So if you hate drugs, you better stop liking them. (along with every other good band) "

Yes, it is 2009, and Queens of the Stone Age is a notorious stoner band. Kyuss aside, That band's cd's revolve around drug use, and he does them regularly. So my point was, if you don't like drugs, you should not like Queens either.   Would it bother you if they were doing drugs right before the show? How about right after? How about leaving the stage to do it? "

Dood, Butthole Surfers aren't a concert - they are a fucking experience!  Being blazed out of your goddamn skull does help with the experience, but it's not necessary.  Their music is not like "Pepper" really.  They are a very...intriguing band.  I dug them a lot when I saw them live...but then again, I also don't remember how I got home that night either.  =  /

Weather they're stoned out of their minds or not, their music is fucking awesome. And I don't really give a shit either way about their personal ... uhm... recreational activity choices. Who gives a fuck, just enjoy the music, man.

I would like to add that some of what lilburtonboy has said is perhaps a little too aggressive. However, this childish, judgmental, outright condemnation of any type of recreational drug use is absurd. How many of you tried weed or drinking before you decided it's so horrible? Even if you decided it wasn't for you, why is it imperative for you to try to force it upon others?
 
I just feel like a lot of the anti-drug sentiment is coming from people who haven't even had exposure to it or to people who do use it. I don't use drugs at all, but some of your attitudes seem uninformed.

I did.  I've done a LOT of drugs in my past.  I'm, however, not going to demonize someone because they do it.  I think it would be cooler if they didn't, but whatever. "
